"Death or Life?" ©
.
What's going on? Frantically, I search my mind;
I Get no answers, as I realize that I'm blind!
How did this happen? When and why?
Where's my life? Did I suddenly die?
Memories of the past don't come flooding into my head;
What was happening a second ago? Does anyone know
I'm dead?
Who was I? I have no memory of having ever been;
Young, old? Bad, good? Did I Lose, or did I win?
There is no input; not a touch, sight or sound;
No physical body, to which I am bound!
I am merely a consciousness, drifting and free;
Wondering if I ever was, or ever will be!
Time doesn't exist here, no need to hurry;
There is no pain or hurt, no reason to worry!
How happy I am here, to know such release;
All that is, is within me; I'm at such peace!
With a blinding flash, really more of a sense;
My existence, my whole being feels oh, so tense!
It's bright and loud, there's movement all about;
As I realize that now I'm beginning to come out!
There's so much to tell, I have to remember it all;
Yet it slips away so fast, as I feel myself fall!
I watch as all the answers that there ever were;
In my minds' eye become nothing more than a blur!
I'm here, but I can't communicate, no matter how I
try;
The knowledge fades so quickly, all I can do is cry!
I barely make out my hands, small, soft and knurled;
My last memory, gone now, as I'm born into this world!
I feel such a peace, hearing the voice from above;
As this woman, my "Mother", fills me with her love!

I wrote the original poem in Aug. '95', while on an Amtrak from
Michigan to Maine. There was a group of college "kids"; we all started
writing poems on random topics. When the topic "Death" was chosen, I decided
to present a positive side. I gave the original to a lady whom had been
listening to our readings. It was a MUCH better version, than this attempt,
almost 3 years later, at reproducing it. If you have any knowledge as to
the whereabouts of the original, I would PROUDLY put it in this ones' place!
If you E-Mail me, or leave information in the "Comments" section of the
Guestbook, (located on my HOME PAGE), I would appreciate it very much.
Thank You for reading this, and any of the other poems I've listed!
